Geddes Fieldwork Funding Applications - Due February 28th
Kia ora koutou, On behalf of the Social Anthropology Department, I am pleased to call for applications for the first round of the Geddes Postgraduate Research and Dissemination Funding Award. Each year, thanks to the generous gift from Mrs Ngaere Geddes, the Trust has approximately $40,000 available to support social anthropology postgraduates’ fieldwork and other selected research-related costs, including various forms of data-gathering and analysis, community engagement, interpretation and translation, software, specialize equipment, reciprocity for participants (ie, New World vouchers) and dissemination of research findings back to participants, relevant stakeholder communities or academic audiences. The final amount varies from year to year and will be distributed among successful applicants based on: * The number and quality of applications, * Honouring the Bequest’s aims and values, * The Trustees’ collective judgement and decisions to best support our students. When there is considerable demand on the fund, the Social Anthropology programme may recommend to the Trustees to award partial funding to successful applicants. Applicants with shared supervision between departments, if successful, may be provided with pro-rata funding in line with supervision. Applications will be considered on their merits, with careful thought given to the reasonableness of the request and its value to fieldwork and/or research dissemination. Please see the attached document for further information, eligibility, and the application form. Please note that the due date is February 28th at 5pm – apologies for the tight turnaround. Once completed, please email back to this email (anthropology@otago.ac.nz<mailto:anthropology@otago.ac.nz>) and cc SocAnthPostGradCoordinator@otago.ac.nz<mailto:SocAnthPostGradCoordinator@otago.ac.nz>. There will be a second round of applications later this year. Retrospective applications will be accepted for expenses dating back up to January 2025. We look forward to receiving your applications 😊 Ngā mihi, [University of Otago]<https://apc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.otago.ac.nz%2F&data=05%7C02%7Csocialanthpostgrads%40lists.otago.ac.nz%7Cf76524402978402abf2408de700c04f6%7C0225efc578fe4928b1579ef24809e9ba%7C0%7C0%7C639071394109957288%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=1E5gweTlOPyurAmMoj6gyRUKjw4ojQ8K2mT%2F%2Bu0T0a4%3D&reserved=0> Giorgia Fletcher (she/her) BA (Gender Studies & Psychology) Administrator | Kaiwhakarite University of Otago – Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka Divisional Services and Administration (Humanities) T: +64 3 556 7658 E: giorgia.fletcher@otago.ac.nz<mailto:giorgia.fletcher@otago.ac.nz>; anthropology@otago.ac.nz<mailto:anthropology@otago.ac.nz> Hours: Mon & Thu: 9-2:30pm | Tue & Fri: 9-4pm | Wed: 9-4:30pm
